Joey, a special rescue puppy who might make you question, “is a chihuahua a terrier?”, is finding comfort and care at Vintage Pet Sanctuary — a safe haven for dogs as they await their forever homes. This remarkable puppy, born in December without front legs, displays extraordinary resilience and is currently thriving at the sanctuary located in Foster, Rhode Island.

The Spark of Joey’s Spirit

Despite his physical challenges, Joey’s energy and joyful demeanor light up the sanctuary. Kristen Peralta, the visionary behind Vintage Pet Sanctuary, recounts Joey’s journey: “Joey originated from a family in Connecticut.

While his siblings were quickly adopted, Joey’s special needs posed a unique challenge. The Vintage Pet Sanctuary guided the family to our doors, knowing our commitment to nurturing dogs like Joey, whether they resemble a dog terrier chihuahua mix or any other breed.”

At Vintage Pet Sanctuary, which primarily cares for older and hospice dogs, Joey’s youthful zest is a refreshing addition. “Typically, we focus on dogs nearing the end of their lives, but we’ve broadened our scope to embrace special needs dogs such as Joey. His presence injects so much happiness and life into our community,” explains Peralta.
